History of Ales and Brewers

The Braich Goch Inn has been in existence since the year Dot. There is evidence of a coaching Inn on the site of the Braich Goch way back in the 1600s. Many transformations have taken placesince then including the rise of the Corris and Aberllefenni slate industries which brought the Corris Railway. There have been changes to the road and rail routes through the ages to the present day where the A487 runs above the present Corris Railway.

Through all these changes the Braich Goch has remained but has undergone many changes. Nobody really knows how much of the coaching Inn is origional. Perhaps the reisident ghost ( Nicknamed Mary by the current occupants ) could tell us some stories.

One thing has remained. There always has been, and always will be, a public bar there.

The Inn has been owned by may from Landownes way back in the mists of time, may breweries including Bass to Ann Bottrill, a mild mannered blonde of Viking desent who has resided there since November 2002 to the present.

At this time Bass draught was the norm and had been for a while but Corris was not a particularly strong real ale area. Sadly Lager and canned cider were the most popular. Luckily the new owner had a business partner that was into real ales having been weaned on Brains Dark and Brains SA. Soon guest ales were the norm and with a good relationship being forged with the Brains Brewery The Reverand James became the Stock Ale on tap.

The interest in Real Ales grew over the next few years which led to the formation of the Braich Goch Cask Ale Society ( B.G.C.A.S. ) in November 2008. The first offical Ale was, of course, The Reverand James.
